Team Spotlight: Merrimack Valley RedBirds (2023)
Final Flight for the Skipper
The Merrimack Valley Redbirds enter the 2023 GSBL season with unfinished business and a renewed sense of purpose. After a promising campaign in 2022 ended in frustration, the Redbirds are determined to turn the page and make a deep playoff run—especially with long-time player/manager Chris Lavallee returning for his final season at the helm.
Building on Last Season
The Redbirds bring back their full roster from last year, preserving chemistry and continuity. The foundation was strengthened in 2022 by the addition of three key players from the Seacoast Braves—Pitcher Kyle Parmley, Utility man Heath Norris, and Infielder Edgar Montan. Parmley made an immediate impact, finishing as runner-up for Pitcher of the Year and establishing himself as a true ace.
Returning standouts Cody Bassett, Chris Gauss, Cam Conway, and Danyer Fabian are all expected to be core contributors once again, building off strong 2022 campaigns that propelled the team into postseason contention.
Pitching Staff
The Redbirds’ pitching unit remains intact and dangerous. Parmley, Damean Currier, Mike Gamache, and Jon Merritt return to lead the charge, with Jolmi Minaya joining the squad to add depth and versatility on the mound. For now, Minaya is the team’s lone new recruit—yet another sign of confidence in their returning roster.
Home Turf
Fans can catch the Redbirds in action on Saturday mornings and afternoons at Michele Park in Salem, NH, where they’ll look to protect their home field and energize their playoff pursuit.
A Season with Purpose
With a full roster, proven talent, and motivation to send their manager out on a high note, the 2023 RedBirds are poised to soar. A playoff return is the expectation—but a championship run to honor Lavallee’s final season? That’s the mission.
