USA Blue Tops Ireland 4-1, Secures Second Seed

USA Blue broke through late to defeat Ireland 4-1 on Saturday, clinching the tournament’s second overall seed in the process.

 

After seven scoreless innings, USA Blue rallied in the top of the eighth. Tyler Croson opened the scoring with an RBI single, B.J. Kittle followed with a run-scoring double, and Clint Sanders delivered a two-run single to cap the four-run frame.

 

Dillon Search-Wells earned the win with a dominant outing. The right-hander tossed eight innings of three-hit ball, allowing one unearned run while striking out three and walking two.

 

Ireland starter Eric Bosworth was solid despite the loss, pitching eight innings and surrendering four runs (three earned runs) on 11 hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.

 

USA Blue totaled 10 hits in the win. Brian Remillard led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance, while Sanders drove in a game-high two runs.

 

Ireland was held to just three hits, with Godfroy, Riley, and Thomas each collecting one.

 

With the win, USA Blue advances as the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of Ireland and USA Red on Sunday night.
