The Merrimack Valley Redbirds couldn’t get the offense going on Sunday, falling 5-0 to the New Hampshire Bucks.

The Bucks struck early, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ruben Rodriguez delivered a two-run single, and Sam Malgeri followed with an RBI groundout to give Bucks an early 3-0 lead. They tacked on runs in the third and sixth to stretch the lead to five.

Redbirds starter Damean Currier went three innings, allowing two hits and four runs (three earned), striking out two and walking two.

Kyle Evans and Braden Simard notched the only hits for the Redbirds, who were held to just two hits on the day.

The Bucks leaned on aggressive baserunning, stealing eight bases—led by Malgeri and Cam Cook with two apiece. Rodriguez, Bobby Baril, and Cook each had a hit, while Rodriguez, Malgeri, and Brett Patnode all drove in runs.

The RedBirds will look to bounce back in their next contest against the Granite State Grizzlies.
